“Conroy’s Woods” A4 Mounted quality heat sealed Print
This is what stands of the homestead of the Conroy’s, a hidden famine house high on the slopes of Slieve Gullion, such a poignant place to stumble upon when rambling along the mountain. If only these walls could talk, such stories would they tell! This image is the perfect partner to a beautiful song by local songwriter Briege Murphy called ‘Old Houses’ where “nature takes her own again as time goes creeping by…”

Caoilfionn Murphy-O’Hanlon founded Cushla of Gullion in 2014 and works from her mountainside studio in Dromintee, South Armagh. A photographer, milliner and lover of fibres, she finds constant inspiration in the Ring of Gullion which she translates into her unique and quirky textile designs. Excited by new experimental amalgamations of found and upcycled materials she enjoys the organic nature, flow and fusion which the textile medium allows. Working mainly through handmade felting techniques, Caóilfíonn, a self professed fibre scavenger also enjoys finding new ways to repurpose and revive upcycled fabrics. Constantly inspired by the shifting lights and hues, the abundance of myth and legend in her Gullion surrounds, she strives to encapsulate some Gullion magic into her designs.
