Description

Homestead

This derelict house in the town land of Glendesha, just outside the village of Mullaghbawn in Co. Armagh.

The front door is over grown yet still welcoming, almost beckoning the viewer to enter this old abode. The vibe of this picture is joyful, mostly due to the abundance of warm red tones. I spent a great deal of time building up the various textures in this painting using a palette knife and stippling parts like the dashed walls.

Artist Sharon Donnelly along with her Wood Turner husband Padraig Carragher, work out of their studio in Mullaghbawn.  The studio and gallery is a recently restored farm building catered to facilitate a wide range of artist lead workshops. It is situated in the middle of the picturesque Ring of Gullion, only nine mile from Newry city and seven mile from Dundalk, Co.Louth.
