The Building of our Place is a schools heritage guidebook designed by teachers for teachers.
The book takes you through the built heritage of the Ring of Gullion and its surrounding area from the Stone Age (4000 BC) to the Victorian Era (AD 1837). Each time period gives you an overview of what the people of the time built, how they lived and what they made; followed by a selection of activities to test pupils’ learning. Each section finishes with suggested sites or buildings for a school visit along with useful information.
The book is free to download, copy and use in class.
We hope it encourages you to incorporate local examples of built heritage into your history and ‘world around us’ lessons.
