School heritage guidebook and teacher training

School heritage guidebook and teacher training

The School heritage guidebook project is implemented through The Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership Scheme. The LPS is part of the Heritage Lottery Fund’s programme to conserve and enhance some of the region’s most treasured landscapes. The LPS runs from September 2015 until August 2018.

The total budget for this project is £5,250

This project aims to enable teachers in the schools in the LP area to exploit the landscape to its full potential. School children will have a greater understanding of the place where they live and children will grow up with this knowledge and pass it on to their children. This project will deliver on these aims by: Producing a schools heritage guide and providing training to teachers on how to use the LP area’s heritage.

Project Updates

The Buildling of our Place book produced for schools

Update published on: January 7, 2019

We are pleased to announce the development and launch of our school’s heritage book, called ‘The Building of our Place’.

The book takes you through the built heritage of the Ring of Gullion and its surrounding area from the Stone Age (4000 BC) to the Victorian Era (AD 1837). Each time period gives you an overview of what the people of the time built, how they lived and what they made; followed by a selection of activities to test pupils’ learning. Each section finishes with suggested sites or buildings for a school visit along with useful information.

The book is free to download, copy and use in class.
