Launch of the 2018 Moth Poetry Prize

The Moth Poetry Prize offers one of the most lucrative awards in the world for a single unpublished poem. 

Prizes are as follows: 

One prize of €10,000. 

Three runner-up prizes of €1,000. 

Shortlisted poems will be published in the spring 2019 issue of The Moth. The winner will be announced at a special award ceremony at Poetry Ireland in Dublin in the spring of 2019.

Attenborough: ‘Watching butterflies is good for you!’

Get out for the Big Butterfly Count, it’s good for them and it’s good for you. The Count runs from 20 July to 12 August. Taking part in the Count is easy - find a sunny spot anywhere in the UK and spend 15 minutes counting the butterflies you see and then submit sightings online at www.bigbutterflycount.org or via the free Big Butterfly Count app.

Slieve Gullion Fire

A gorse fire has been burning at the Ballintemple end of Slieve Gullion mountain since Friday. Fire crews have been working tirelessly alongside volunteers from Mourne Heritage Trust amongst others, to bring the fire under control. The emergency services request that people refrain from walking on the summit of Slieve Gullion mountain and visiting the area of the fire as this is hindering their work.

Ring of Gullion Needs your Vote

The Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership Scheme (LPS) in South Armagh, is delighted to announce that it is through to the finals in the National Lottery Awards.

The programme was selected by a national panel as one of seven out of an initial 700 across the UK to get to the finals of the Best Environmental Project. But the rest is now up to you, the next stage is an open vote by the public, through the National Lottery Website, through social media and by phone and the project needs you to vote. Ring of Gullion Lúnasa Festival 2018

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Announce Further Geopark Project Community Events

The Geopark Project team at Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has announced a further series of public community events for 2018.  The team will have a presence at a number of annual festivals and events that are scheduled to take place over the coming months.  From June to September, if you are out and about at any of the following events you will be able to catch up with the Geopark Project team, who will be sharing information and engaging with visitors to answer any queries.
