Help wanted for Slieve Gullion Cairn Facelift

Slieve Gullion Cairn needs your help! The ancient cairn on the summit of Slieve Gullion is in need of repairs as a result of the accidental damage caused by the thousands of visitors to the site each year. The Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership, part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), is appealing for volunteers to help with the restoration of the Passage Tomb on the summit of Slieve Gullion on Saturday 16th May.

Scenic Drive Remains Closed for Bank Holiday

Tree felling operations in the main woodland area of Slieve Gullion Forest will be ongoing for a period of approximately 3 months. The Scenic Drive will be closed to public vehicle access.

Wildfire on Slieve Gullion

The Ring of Gullion ANOB project is saddened to report that a large wildfire on the Ballard rd side of Slieve Gullion has done extensive damage to the heath habitat, a habitat of international significance.

Launch of Ring of Gullion walking guides!

The Giant’s Lair Opening Soon!

The most ambitious children’s arts project commissioned in Northern Ireland has almost completed at Slieve Gullion and is set to become a landmark cultural attraction for the island of Ireland.The Giant’s Lair, is an innovative magical living storybook devised through a trail of intertwined fairy house and arts features creating a childhood land with dragons, giants and fairies inspired by legend and mythical folklore on over a mile of woodlands at Slieve Gullion forest park.

Building better homes for birds in the Ring of Gullion

A great time was had by all in the Pastoral Centre in Jonesborough on Valentine’s day creating nest boxes. The Ring of Gullion AONB Project had joined up with Ulster Wildlife to organize the workshop as part of National Nest Box week.
