LIDL Community Works relaunches for 2017 with £228,000 funding pot

LIDL Community Works has reopened for 2017 and is seeking community groups and projects across Northern Ireland to benefit from its funding.

World champion boxer Carl Frampton helped launch this year’s LIDL Community Works, which has a total of £228,000 to invest, and is offering £6,000 in funding to local groups and large scale projects through each of its 38 stores across the Northern Ireland.

This Easter – Hop on the Ring of Gullion Heritage Coach or Explore the area by foot!

This Easter, the Ring of Gullion team is offering two avenues to learn more about this great area. Starting with our popular coach tour on Thursday 20th April, starting in Newry, the coach will make its way gently through the rolling hills of South Armagh, visiting built heritage sites of importance in the area.

Discover a Magical World at Ireland’s Coolest Family Event – Footsteps in the Forest

Enchantment and mystery abounds as Newry, Mourne and Down District Council prepare for the return of the first of its Giant Adventure festivals, Footsteps in the Forest. The winner of the 2016 Heritage Council of Ireland, Cool for Kids award will take place at Slieve Gullion Forest Park, kicking of the festival season on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June 2017.

Have your say on the development of Outdoor Recreation in South Armagh

Newry Mourne and Down District Council through the Ring of Gullion Partnership have commissioned Outdoor Recreation NI to develop an Outdoor Recreation Action Plan for South Armagh. In order to develop the Action Plan, Outdoor Recreation NI is holding a public consultation in Mullaghbane Community Centre on 11th April at 7pm.

Old Barracks to become Peace Forest

The site of a Former British Army watchtower and barracks in Forkhill which became a symbol of the troubles of the past is set to be planted with 1000 native trees as part of a project to create a “peace forest” on sites along the border. A total of 4000 trees will be planted this year to form a remembrance for all those who lost their lives in the conflict.

Environment Fair coming to Cullyhanna area, get your buzz on!

Join a number of environmental groups in Cullyhanna Community Centre on Saturday 4th March between 11.00am and 3.00pm to learn more about the local wildlife in the area. A partnership between Mullaghbane and Cullyhanna Community Association, Dundalk Institute of Technology’s Centre for Freshwater and Environmental Studies, Ulster Farmer’s Union, Coomhola Salmon Trust Ltd.,Newry Mourne and Down District Council’s Ring of Gullion Partnership and Woodland Trust has received funding from the Northern Ireland’s Environment Agency’s Challenge Fund.
