Blessed recognition for Northern Ireland’s finest trees

The Woodland Trust is urging tree lovers to stump up nominations for Northern Ireland’s Tree of the Year 2017.

The competition is open to any living and loved tree in the UK; with Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales each having its own contest. Any individual, group or organisation can enter through the Woodland Trust’s website until 30 July.

Hit the road with the Ring of Gullion Heritage Coach Tours!

With the hazy, lazy days of the summer to look forward to; it’s time to look at getting out and about discovering areas of this great land. Have you heard of the Ring of Gullion, but don’t know much about it? From the 2nd August, the Ring of Gullion Coach Tours will make their way gently through the rolling hills of South Armagh, visiting important built heritage sites every Wednesday and Saturday in August.

The Ring of Gullion roll out the welcome mat to Outdoor Recreation organisations

A fabulous 2 day conference last week which showcased the Ring of Gullion and South Armagh starting to starch the surface in developing the area as a hive for Outdoor Recreation in Northern Ireland, with delegates from Ireland, England and Spain learning about how the area is progressing.

The Developing and Managing Recreation in Protected Area 2 day conference was held in Tí Chulainn conference centre in Mullaghbane.

The Ring of Gullion benefits from hosting National Outdoor Recreation Conference

In partnership with Newry Mourne and Down District Council, the Ring of Gullion Partnership, Tourism NI, and Northern Ireland Environment Agency; Sport NI are holding a two day conference in the Ring of Gullion on 22-23rd June on the Development and Management of Recreation in Protected Landscapes. The conference will be held at the Tí Chulainn Cultural Activity Centre, located in the heart of the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Marvellous Model Memories

Memories were kindled and now burn bright within Bessbrook Community following the launch of the Bessbrook Model village project in Bessbrook Townhall. This Heritage Lottery funded project, which is managed by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council aims to engage with the local community to better interpret Bessbrook’s heritage and build a picture of the village that will cross generations. Guests were treated to colourful stories from speakers Alf McCreary and Graham McAleer. Both men grew up in Bessbrook and worked in the mill and shared vivid memories of the village that shaped their lives.
