Local ramblers enjoy guided walk of Slieve Gullion

Pictured above, Mayor Charlie Casey meets some of the ramblers before they set off on a guided walk of Slieve Gullion on Saturday.

Local guide Loretto Coyle lead the guided walk of Slieve Gullion, enlightening the group on the myths, legends and history of the area whilst embracing breathtaking views of the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The walk took approximately four hours along forest trails and mountain paths to the summit of Slieve Gullion before returning back down the mountain. It was organised by Newry and Mourne District Council as part of an ongoing series of events to encourage people to explore the Ring of Gullion

Mayor Casey said,

“The Newry and Mourne area has an exceptional landscape and it was great to see local people turning out to explore the area.”

Tamasin Wilson of Newry and Mourne Council said,

“We are delighted to be able to give the whole family an opportunity to learn about and enjoy the Ring of Gullion area and will be running another guided walk later in the year.”
