Hit the road, this summer, with the Ring of Gullion Heritage Coach Tours!

With the hazy, lazy days of the summer well under way; it’s time to look at getting out and about discovering areas of this great land. Have you heard of the Ring of Gullion, but don’t know much about it? This summer, the Ring of Gullion Coach Tours will make its way gently through the rolling hills of South Armagh, visiting built heritage sites of importance in the area.

From Saturday 6th Aug until Saturday 24th September Una Walsh “the mastermind of the history of the Ring of Gullion” will be our tour guide. The coach will be leaving Bagenal’s Castle, Newry at 10.30am and returning at 4.30pm. Booking is essential on the Ring of Gullion website, if you want to be guaranteed a seat. Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick, Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council “The Ring of Gullion Heritage Tour is a great introduction to this area. Every year, we are inundated with positive reviews for the tours. For example we got these reviews in last year:-

“We highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to experience an historical insight into the culture and folklore of this area of outstanding beauty. The tour guides passion and knowledge of her heritage and culture was engaging and uplifting and a very positive experience. The tour was great value for £10 per person and to think that from the centre of Newry you are only a 20 minute drive from a monument dating older than the pyramids!”

“My husband & I had the great pleasure last Saturday 08/08 of joining the Tour. Whereas we had driven in the area, had no knowledge of the history, culture or the beauty of the area as seen from the bus. The tour guide, Una Walsh, was amazing, her enthusiasm, knowledge & passion for her countryside was entertaining & informative, non-stop flow of history, geography/geology & folklore, all brought to life in a gripping fashion.”

So, why not call up a few of your favorite travel companions or family members and get booked on these outstanding heritage tours? Escape for a while on this relaxing coach tour of south Armagh, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Let Una Walsh, our tour guide take you on a journey through the ages and social history of this hidden gem. Tickets start at £10 for adults and there are concessions and family tickets available.

The Ring of Gullion Lúnasa Festival will be running for the month of August in beautiful charismatic South Armagh.  There will be at least one event every single day. These will range from small drop-in craft workshops to our major weekend-long celebration of the fabulous: “Footsteps in the Forest”. Visitors will be able to take in cooking, hiking, geology, history and art!
