Experience the people, places and culture of the aUGGp of Mourne Gullion Strangford through Atlantic CultureScape, a €2million innovative project to collectively develop sellable experiences rooted in the Atlantic Area’s intangible cultural heritage in seven areas on Europe’s Atlantic coast.
The three year project involves Newry, Mourne and Down District Council as lead partner, working collaboratively with Breacon Beacons National Park Authority in Wales, Rio Maior Municipality in Portugal, Cork, Munster University of Technology in Ireland, the University of Vigo; Regional Government for Cantabria and Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions in Spain. There are also eleven associate partners involved.
Atlantic CultureScapes seeks to support rural communities in transnationally generated but locally appropriate sustainable economic development. It will focus on enhancing the tourism offering through the sustainable integration of Intangible Cultural Heritage thereby stimulating increased economic gain from tourism along the Atlantic Area.
NMDDC has developed 16 innovative and immersive intangible cultural heritage visitor experiences working in collaboration with local intangible cultural providers throughout the district.

These NMDDC Atlantic CultureScapes visitor experiences will be conglomerated into an Atlantic Area Route, allowing the project to raise the profile of the sector through transnationally organised marketing. The experiences will then be bookable via the independent providers websites. NMDDC will also be working with their associate partner TNI to ensure that the visitor experiences are brand aligned with their Embrace the Giant Spirit campaign.
