After much deliberation by the judges, the management of the three AONBs (Ring of Gullion, the Mournes and Strangford and Lecale) are pleased to announce the winners of the AONB Photography Competition for 2021!
Newry Mourne and Down District Council, Ards and North Down Borough Council and the AONB management are displaying the excellent entries here and the top 16 entries will feature in our third AONBs Calendar 2022.
The theme for this year’s competition was “Nature in my Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” which photographers were free to interpret any way they chose. There were 2 age categories: under 14’s and over 14’s.
The AONB and Geopark staff would like to thank our judges Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Cathy Mason, Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Mark Brooks and Mourne Heritage Trust Board Member Mr David Maginn. It was with great difficulty, they picked the winners! The standard of photographs entered into the competition this year was excellent, with the winning pictures selected by the judges for the nature they showcased in the AONBs.
Well done to the overall winner Gavin Smith and the under 14 winner Jamie O’Neil. Congratulations to John Kelly, who came second in the competition.
Well done to Joyce Dunlop, Seren Williams, Jonathan Clark, Allan Davies, Rachel Tinnelly, Michael Rice, Peter Soult, Orlaith Rice, Mary McKevitt, Darren Haughey, Seamus McVeigh and Christopher Feenan as their photos will feature in the AONBs Calendar for 2022.
The 2022 Calendar will be available at the Council Offices in Downpatrick, Bangor and Newtownards, the Ring of Gullion Office in Crossmaglen and the Visitor Information Point in Slieve Gullion Forest Park and Newry in December.
This fantastic amateur photography competition is a great way to showcase the skills of local photographers and the outstanding qualities of the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty(AONBs).
