Slieve Gullion Tree Nursery

Over the course of the project we will be developing a native tree and wild flower nursery at Slieve Gullion Forest Park.  Due to a delay in securing permission from Forest Service, we have moved the tree nursery to  the allotment at Tí Chulainn.  It is hoped over time we’ll be able to run two tree nurseries, one for native trees, at Slieve Gullion Forest Park, and one for Irish varieties of fruit trees, at Tí Chulainn.

The purpose of the tree nursery is to give locals the opportunity to learn about growing trees and wild flowers from seeds, with plenty of opportunity for hands on experience.  Over time we are hoping to get a poly tunnel set up to encourage our trees and wild flowers to grow more quickly, as well as provide volunteers somewhere to work, sheltered from the elements.  We will also be working closely with the staff and students of Clanrye Training.

Once the trees and wild flowers are ready to go to their permanent homes, they will be made freely available to residents in the Ring of Gullion.  Through the efforts of everyone working on the tree nursery project we hope to improve the biodiversity of the Ring of Gullion area and provide even more homes for our native wildlife.
