Dorsey Archaeological Dig

The Dorsey Archaeology Dig took place in a field near the Dorsey Embankment, alongside Bonds Road, Silverbridge. The initial geophysical survey showed a few magnetic anomalies, one of which was a particularly pronounced line running parallel to to the road. The trenches were sited over these anomalies as it was hoped the strongest would prove to be the remains of an oak palisade, as one was found on the other side of the road during a previous dig.

Check out the images below for the development of the dig, which did indeed find an oak palisade. The dig progressed down until post holes for the palisade where uncovered. The archaeologists were joined by eight local primary schools and members of the public.
