Workshops in NMDDC Community Centres

Recreational Dressmaking
Cost: £10 – Pre-booking essential as places are limited.
This 12-week course will teach you the basic skills of dressmaking, including:

  • following a pattern;
  • fabric selection;
  • cutting fabric;
  • finishing a garment correctly to a professional standard; and
  • how to use a sewing machine correctly

On the first day beginners will be given advice on where to purchase materials, tools and equipment. You will be required to bring your own sewing machine.

BTEC Level 2 Award Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry
Cost: £10 – Pre-booking essential as places are limited.
This 6-week course will provide you with the requirements to become a recognised Door Supervisor in N. Ireland, security staff at concerts and festivals, retail security etc. The course will provide all tuition and the licence fee!

Recreational Art Class

Cost: £20 – Pre-booking essential as places are limited.

This 8-week course, run by the Southern Regional College, will explore a broad range of techniques and materials such as charcoals, pastels, water based media and oil paints. You will be introduced to colour theory and practice with projects and exercises running in conjunction with individual study projects and advisory sessions. Your art will draw from observation, memory, imagination, sketchbook material or photographs. This course is designed for a wide range of students, from beginners to artists who are more experienced.

Requirements – Students should be prepared for the class, by bringing a selection of brushes and media they would choose to work in.  Some materials will be provided.

Well Time for Me
Cost: £10 – Pre-booking essential as places are limited.

This 8-week course will provide you with a range of skills to effectively deal with and manage stress, including mindfulness and meditation techniques. Please see the poster below for details of what is covered each week.

  • Crossmaglen Community Centre – Thur 3rd Oct – 28th Nov (no class on 31st Oct), 7.30pm – 9pm

Jewellery Making Course
Cost: £10 – Pre-booking essential as places are limited.

This 4-week course will give you the skills required to make a range of jewellery types.

  • Crossmaglen Community Centre – Mon 7th – 28th Oct, 7pm – 9pm
  • Bessbrook Community Centre – Wed 9th – 30th Oct, 7pm – 9pm

Preparation for Floral Design – NAFAS Level 1 certificate
Cost: £20 – Pre-booking essential as places are limited.

This 12-week course is suitable for students who have an interest in flower arranging and would like to further their knowledge and skills through taking an accredited course; progression could lead to a level 2 Intermediate course or employment in the floristry industry.

  • Bessbrook Community Centre – Thur 7th Nov – 20th Feb 2020, 10.30am – 12.30pm

Fascinator Making Course
Cost: £10 – Pre-booking essential as places are limited.

This 4-week course will give you the skills to make your own fascinator, excellent for any upcoming weddings or special occasions.

  • Crossmaglen Community Centre – Tues 5th – 26th Nov, 7pm – 9pm
  • Bessbrook Community Centre – Thur 7th – 28th Nov, 7pm – 9pm

Genealogy Course – Tracing your family tree
Cost: £10 – Pre-booking essential as places are limited.

On this 6-week course learn about all the aspects of tracing your family history, with tutor Pauline Loughran from Irish Homesteads.

  • Crossmaglen Community Centre – Wed 6th Nov – 11th Dec, 7pm – 9pm

Courses are funded by Department for Communities (DFC) as part of the Bessbrook and Crossmaglen Areas at Risk Community Training Programme, therefore priority will be given to residents of the Bessbrook and Crossmaglen areas.
