Join the Ring of Gullion team and UCD Dublin’s Professor of Celtic Archaeology Gabriel Cooney for an enlightening lunch-time talk about Slieve Gullion and Newgrange. Newgrange in the Boyne Valley is a 5000 year old Passage Tomb famous for the Winter Solstice illumination which lights up the passage and chamber at sunrise. While the passage tomb on the top of Slieve Gullion lights up the passage tomb at the sunset.

Professor Cooney from Co. Louth, Ireland. One of the proudest moments in his career was delivering the address at the centenary celebrations of the County Louth Archaeological and Historical Society. His PhD (1987, UCD, National University of Ireland) was on prehistoric settlement patterns in North Leinster.

He was the Academic Secretary for the sixth World Archaeological Congress (WAC-6) held in Dublin in 2008 with over 1800 participants from around the world. He currently chair the Historic Monuments Council of Northern Ireland and he is a member of the Heritage Council.

There will be light refreshments available during the talk.
