Winter Solstice Festival 2018 – Christmas Crafting

Learn how to create unique Christmas decorations made from willow and straw. In this workshop, designed for adults, Straw Craft Ireland will demonstrate how to make willow stars, straw knots and glory braids with a festive feel, and teach you the skills necessary to make a straw spiral weave so that you can make your very own beautiful Christmas pomander finished off with traditional seasonal trimmings.

Whether you are a budding novice or a crafting expert you can compliment your traditional craft experience in this workshop where you will learn how to create unique Christmas decorations made from willow and straw. Straw Craft Ireland will demonstrate how to make willow stars, straw knots and glory braids with a festive feel, and teach you the skills necessary to make a straw spiral weave. These skills and learned techniques will then allow you to craft your very own beautiful Christmas pomander of orange, clove and cinnamon encased in a straw spiral weave plait and finished off with traditional seasonal trimmings.

Straw Craft Ireland is based at the shores of Lough Neagh in North Armagh; an area steeped in the history of traditional Irish crafts. They provide beautifully intricate items woven in straw in a traditional and uniquely Irish plaiting method as well as promoting the continuance of ancient traditional Ulster and Irish crafts, customs and culture, click here for further details of their work.

This workshop is designed for adults only.

Booking is essential and the cost is £10 which is payable on the day. If attendees want to attend this workshop and the Willow Wreath workshop, the cost will be £15 in total.
