Volunteer Opportunity – Willow dome maintenance

Volunteer Opportunity – Willow dome maintenance

Last winter, as part of the Traditional Woodland Management course we gave the over-grown willow dome at St. Mary’s Primary School, Mullaghbane an extreme hair cut and tidy up, clearing away sections that had died over the years and restoring some health and vigour to the dome. As many of the roof pieces had died off, the dome required a year’s growth before we could successfully re-weave the roof back to it’s former glory.

If you would like to come along and learn the skills of willow dome maintenance or just generally lend a hand tidying up this interesting living structure you’ll be most welcome.

If the willow dome maintenance doesn’t take the full time, we’ll be working in the tree nursery, processing oak saplings, for either planting out in their final homes or lining them out for another year in the nursery.
