Townlands across Traditions

Fascinating discussion with historian Brian Turner about why people have been willing to lose their townland heritage and how it can be reclaimed, along with music and dance from the young people of the Traditional Arts Partnership and a display of townland paraphernalia from across all traditions.

This evening event will feature music and dance from the Traditional Arts Partnership with a backdrop of banners and flags featuring townland names and a fascinating talk by historian Brian Turner, discussing successful projects reclaiming the identity of townlands locally and the psychological significance involved in the ease with which people, even those with strong cultural interests, can be persuaded to be a number rather than to preserve one of the most unifying markers of cultural identity in Ulster. Local historian, Una Walsh, will also speak about our proposals to name and reclaim our townland heritage in the Ring of Gullion. Light refreshments will be available from 7.30 to 8pm.
