In celebration of GeoWeek, the Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership is offering a geology tour with a difference – an electric bike exploration of Slieve Gullion mountain. Our E-Bike Exploration is a unique opportunity to explore the landscape of Slieve Gullion mountain from bike saddle without the extreme exertion it usually takes to cycle up a mountainside – though peddling is still required.
Join your guides for an exploration of Slieve Gullion mountain, hear all about the birth of the Ring of Gullion and how the underlying geology affected the people and animals who call the mountain and ring home. The tour will take in the infamous famine walls, the views from the top car park and if you’re very lucky an elusive red squirrel or pine marten.
Tours will last for around two-hours and will depart from and return to, the gravel overflow car park at Slieve Gullion Forest Park. Participants will be taught how to use and get used to, the electric bikes before departing on the tour.
Please note: Due to the size of the e-bikes available, you must be over 5ft 1in to participate, a reasonable level of fitness is also required, as you will be required to continuously peddle on the uphill sections at a similar rate to cycling a normal bicycle on the flat.
Cost: Free – Booking essential as places are limited.
The event is part of the Mourne Gullion Strangford proposed UNESCO Global Geopark.
