Join the Gap o’ the North walking club leader Seamus Murphy, a knowledgeable and experience hill walker, for a guided hill walk on Slieve Gullion mountain. Seamus will guide you along two of the mountain’s connecting famine walls, built by the destitute and starving during the Great Famine, for meagre wages and rations. The famine walls mark the townland boundaries and were built mainly to give the needy work.
Seamus will bring to life the story of those who laboured on the wall as well as the wider landscape.
This walk is over uneven hill terrain, with some fairly steep sections; hiking boots are essential as is weather appropriate clothing and drinking water. A snack is also advisable.
The walk will be departing from the information board in the lower courtyard car park.
