Join Ambassador Ann Ward for a gentle two-hour guided walk from Slieve Gullion Courtyard to St. Moninna’s Well and back, taking in historical sites along the way. The walk will take in the old Killeavy Churches; two churches built back to back on a site of an early convent founded by St. Moninna, in the 6th Century. The site was raided by the Vikings for its treasures and the associated holy well is reputed to cure eye ailments. You will also catch glimpses of Killeavy castle, a Tudoresque, Gothic castle, built in the early 1800s.
Throughout the walk, Ann will bring the landscape, history and biodiversity of the Ring of Gullion to life.
The walk will take roughly 2 to 2.5 hours, mostly along paths and roads.
Meet at the Information board on the lower car park, Slieve Gullion Courtyard.
