Come to our Geotastic Extravaganza and meet a real life dinosaur!!
There will be lots to see and do from meeting and playing with Roary the T-Rex… if you’re brave enough; to learning about the dinosaurs which used to roam our planet long ago. You can also learn about how our Earth changes over time, including how the Ring of Gullion formed.
Geotastic Extravaganza Activities
Violent Volcanoes – 10.00, 12.00 & 14.00
Become a volcanologist and learn about the volcanoes that formed the Ring of Gullion. You can even erupt a vicious volcano.
Shocking Shakes – 10.20, 12.20 & 14.20
Become a seismologist and learn about the unpredictability of earthquakes.
Fantastic Fossils – 10.40, 12.40 & 14.40
Try your hand at being a palaeontologist and dig for fossils in the fossil tray whilst learning a little about the dinosaurs they belonged to; you can even make your own fossil to take home with you.
Dynamic Dinos – 11.00, 13.00 & 15.00
Take your seat in the outdoor classroom and be amazed at the range of dinosaurs that have come to visit Slieve Gullion; this interactive show is a must for all dinosaur enthusiasts.
Roary Photoshoot – 11.20, 13.20 & 15.20
Dress up in a safari hat and get your picture taken with Roary. Take your photo home as a printed picture or a key ring. Cost – £2 / per photo. Helium filled dinosaur balloons will also be on sale throughout the day.
Roary Roams & Badge Making – 11.40, 13.40 & 15.40
Roary, the T-Rex, will be roaming around the play park, meeting and greeting all those who are brave enough. If you’re not so brave, or would like a momento of our Geotastic Extravaganza, why not make a badge to take home.
The Good Dinosaur at Slieve Gullion – 12.00
Join the Clanrye team in the Hawthorn Suite at the Courtyard for a showing of The Good Dinosaur. Cost – £5 / per person
Family fun fair – 10.00 – 16.00
There will be a small family fun fair available in the Walled Garden of the Courtyard. Cost – Various
An event timetable will also be displayed on the day.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Most of the activities will be concentrated around the basketball and outdoor classroom area of the play park (the right hand side of the park as you come in from the car park), however there will also be a family fun fair in the Walled Garden. Most of the activities are free, however some activities have a small charge, where indicated.
Please note: Tickets are not required for this event, spaces for workshops will be given on a first come first served basis. This event is running alongside the normal operations of the Forest Park so parking will be limited.
