Hedgerows are an important feature of the Irish countryside. Good quality hedges can provide services for farmers such as; shelter for livestock; erosion control; and even having links with reduced risk of bovine tuberculosis in cattle. And of course, they are also vital for a range of animal and plant species; providing corridors for movement, shelter, and a source of food.
Judy Meharg from the Belfast Hills will be coming to the Ring of Gullion to give a half-day session on hedge ecology, management and how to survey hedges to determine quality. This session will have both practical and theoretical elements so remember to bring sensible footwear and clothing.
