Hedge Renovation & Coppicing Training

Join us for a day of training in hedge renovation covering how to rejuvenate old and gappy hedges and coppicing of a suitable woodland site.

Join us for a day of training in the theory of hedge renovation and coppicing.  Due to entering bird nesting season we’ll be slightly restricted in our activities.  In the morning we’ll be looking at the best ways to repair old and gappy hedges.  There will be training in how to correctly plant suitable whips and if we find a suitable section of hedge with no bird activity, there may also be a demonstration of hedge laying.

In the afternoon we will re-locate to Jonesborough Forest behind the pastoral centre to look at forest management and coppicing.   We’ll cover how you lay out your forest area for a rotating coppice and there will be a demonstration of tree coppicing technique.

If there is sufficient interest, further practical training will be provided in the autumn.

To participate in the training all you need to bring with you is weather appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear (hiking boots are idea) and a packed lunch.

Please book your place below as places on the training course are limited.  If you need transport or a car share from one training venue to another, please let us know when you book.
