Lúnasa Festival – Flagstaff Fiesta

A day of fun and frolics at Flagstaff, recreating the traditional Fiesta last held here nearly half a century ago. Flag raising, kids activities, music and more.

Take a step back in time as we revive the popular community event of the Flagstaff Fiesta.  This event will launch the Lúnasa Festival.  For the first time in 46 years, the centuries-old tradition of hoisting the flag overlooking Carlingford Lough will take place. There will be fun and entertainment for all the family. All this set against the breath-taking scenery of the Ring of Gullion and Carlingford Lough. Come and join us.

Flagstaff Fiesta Schedule

11am – 1pm:  Experience Ireland’s first summit level canal in all it’s glory by joining the Carlingford Lough Currach Club at Victoria Lock and having a sail up the canal.  As you sail along you’ll learn all about the currachs, a tradtional Irish sailing craft as well as some of the history of the canal.  Keep an eye out along the banks for evidence of the animals which call the canal home.

2pm – 3pm: Continue the search for wildlife by joining Abby McSherry for a guided biodiversity walk through Fathom Forest from Victoria Locks up to the Flagstaff Viewpoint.  The route is fairly steep in sections so a reasonable level is fitness is recommended.

3pm – 5pm: Family fun day and flag raising at Flagstaff Viewpoint.  There will be something for all the family at the Flagstaff Viewpoint, with a commemorative flag raising, fun and entertainment provided by Evan’s Leisure and music from Camlough Brass & Reed Band.
