Family Walks During Heritage Week

Enjoy a 2 hour guided walk during Heritage Week,this August and hear the fascinating history of the Ring of Gullion on foot with Venora, Ring of Gullion Ambassador and Tour Guide. Recently featured in the Irish Times, Venora is described as leading ‘off-the -beaten- track borderland walks, which includes exploration to sacred sites, adventurous mountain trails and historical trips in the North Louth and South Armagh region’.

Saturday 15th August  @2pm;  Walking the Poet’s Trail to Urney

Circular 2 hour walk through stunning countryside to the peaceful  graveyard at Urney. Hear the history of famous poets, soldiers and sacred men who rest here. En route, stroll through Forkill, the diverse  plantation village. A  peaceful tranquil and bio-diverse walk.

Terrain- initial 10 minute incline on roads, otherwise grassy and country trails. Meet at Larkins’ Pub, Forkill. Subscription: £10.00 pp

Tuesday 18th August  @2pm; Gap O’ the North Walk.

2 hour linear walk from Faughart Graveyard to Kilngaggart. Historical and Sacred walk through Borderlands, of Monasteries, Castles and Battles. Visit Faughart Ancient Graveyard and Well, Moyry Castle and ancient Kilnasaggart Stone. Wonderful views and tall tales!

Terrain; Road and grassy paths. Meet at Faughart graveyard carpark.  Subscription: £10.00 pp. Please note, return transport is not provided.

Thursday 20th August; @11am. A stroll up Carrive- its history and secret paths.

Circular 2.5 hour walk with stunning views of the Ring of Gullion. Hear dark tales of ancient and modern times. Visit the  Massrock at Carrive and follow the path of engraved stones to the hidden mountain hamlet. A truely magical walk through time.

Terrain; Road and forestry tracks. Meet at Ti Chulainn, Mullaghbane. Subscription: £10.00.

Walks are suitable for all ages , children aged 8+. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended, as are stout walking shoes and rain gear. Booking is essential.  All walks are in compliance with updated COVID guidelines.
