Walk in the sacred celtic footsteps of Moninne on her pattern day on 6th July………..

In 450 CE, Moninne, also known as Blinne, founded a church at the foot of Slieve Gullion.

Moninne was one of the first female Irish Saints. The area is now called “Cill Shléibhe Cuilinn”, or Killevy which means ‘Church of the Mountain Gullion’

Local Ring of Gullion ambassador and meditation coach, Ann Ward, will guide a special pilgrimage from Killevy Old Churches up to the holy well dedicated to Blinne. We will celebrate Moninne’s 1500th anniversary (she died in 518 CE) with mindfulness meditation. We will be joined by Irish singer Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin who will sing songs and chants from the monastic tradition in Ireland.

Ann has deep spiritual connections with this part of Slieve Gullion as her mother was born on the mountain just below the holy well and her grandfather helped to build the shrine in 1929.

She will share stories on the history of Killevy old churches and you will experience the deep silence and palpable sense of peace within these sacred sites.

Ann will then gently guide us up a 600m climb towards St.  Moninne’s Well (pre-Christian), pointing out healing herbs along this ancient path and a special seat her father built as a dedication to her mother.

We will rest at the well and breathe in the spectacular panoramic view of Killevy.

You will connect with the stillness of the landscape through a guided mindfulness practice.

We are very blessed to have local Irish singer Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin on this special pilgrimage to celebrate Blinne’s Celtic spirituality on her 1500th anniversary.

Pádraigín will grace us with her beautiful poetic songs and chants from the monastic tradition.

Pádraigín is a professional singer/songwriter, researcher, author and composer.

She has been recording and restoring song in the corpus of the Irish Gaelic Oriel song tradition and also new song composition. To date, she has restored and recorded over 30 Oriel songs that had been lost to the tradition and has recorded nine other studio albums of songs including  Songs of the Scribe .

This is a free event.
