Back to Basics – Foraging

Guided wild food foraging with Dermot Hughes of Forage around Slieve Gullion Forest Park.

In our fast paced modern world, with our attachment to technology and a wealth of food on tap, many of us have lost touch with our natural world and where our food comes from. There is a bounty of free wild food available in our hedgerows and forests. If you’ve ever wondered what there could possibly be for us to eat in our hedgerows and forests, now is your chance to learn nature’s secrets.

Come and join experienced wild forager, Dermot Hughes of Forage, on a guided wild food forage walk around Slieve Gullion Forest Park. Dermot will teach you how to identify the edible plants available at this time of year and how to collect them responsibly, so that there is plenty left to continue growing. Dermot will also advise you on how to prepare the food that you find to make salads and soups.

Please note: The foraging session will depart from the Walled Garden pond.

Cost: Free, booking essential as places are limited.
