Remembering the Hannah- tales of heroism

Presentation by local historians Kevin Murphy and Una Walsh on the loss of the famine ship The Hannah in 1849 on the ice flows of the St Lawrence River. Tales of bravery, survival, heroism and cowardice.

As part of the Annual Famine Commemorations this is a series of events focusing on the loss of the “Hannah”, a famine ship with strong local links to the Ring of Gullion and most particularly the parish of Forkhill from whence came many of the passengers on the fateful voyage ending in the tragedy on the iceflows of the Gulf of St Lawrence.  This evening event features a fascinating presentation by local historians Kevin Murphy and Una Walsh on how and why the Hannah was lost, telling tales of heroism, bravery, cowardice and survival against the odds.
