Derrymore House open for visitors 2016

Event takes place on May 30, 2015 until August 29, 2016

Visit Derrymore House, one Northern Ireland's hidden gems tucked away in Bessbrook, Co. Armagh.

The elegant 18th-century thatched cottage was built between 1776 and 1787 by Isaac Correy, MP for Newry for 30 years, on land that he inherited from his father. Come along and hear the history behind this special place which is now owned and managed by the National Trust.

NI Festival of Cycling

Event takes place on June 3, 2016

Tourism Northern Ireland are delighted to announce the 2016 Northern Ireland Festival of Cycling from 3 - 19 June. This two week bike-fest packs in events and festivities, fun activity workshops that will keep the kids entertained for hours alongside routes that will take you through some of Northern Ireland's most stunning scenery.

Riverfly Monitoring Initiative Training

Event takes place on June 4, 2016

This Riverfly Monitoring Initiative project is a citizen science initiative which works with community groups and others, in partnership with the relevant statutory body in Northern Ireland. Community volunteers are trained to monitor eight groups of freshwater invertebrates on a monthly basis to check for severe changes in water quality, i.e. pollution incidents.

Fairy Trail Guided Walk at Slieve Gullion

Event takes place on June 6, 2016

Come along and enjoy an extra special guided tour of the magical Fairy Trail at Slieve Gullion Forest Park. Visitors will embark on a journey through a landscape of intertwined fairy houses and stunning magical sculpture and art in a land of mystery , dragons, witches and fairies.

The walk will be lead by Sharon the forest elf whose in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of fairy life will add an extra dimension through story, games and activities on the walk.

Youth Ranger Programme

Event takes place on July 18, 2016 until July 29, 2016

An exciting ten day programme for 14 to 17 year olds. During the programme the Youth Rangers will be able to learn a range of adventure and practical conservation skills, whilst exploring the Ring of Gullion area.

Lúnasa Festival – Lá Mór Gaeilge/ Big Irish Language Day

Event takes place on August 6, 2016

Come and immerse yourself in the Irish language for the day; even if you can’t speak a word, today is an excellent opportunity to learn. During the day there will be intensive Irish classes catering for all abilities and a bus tour following the life and feats of the Poets and Scholars of the area. In the evening we’ll be exploring the music and poetry of Oriel.

Lúnasa Festival – 3D Felting workshop

Event takes place on August 13, 2016

3D Felting using the resist technique moves one stage on from creating a flat felted piece and can be used to make an object like a bag or a bowl. This workshop will explore the technique and allow you to experiment with a variety of natural fibres including sheep, camel or even yak's wool, together with silk and many more interesting fibres to create shapes only limited by your imagination

Culann’s Feast: Lúnusa Food and Craft Festival at Ti Chulainn

Event takes place on August 14, 2016

Culann, Ireland's most famous black smith; CúChulainn, Ireland’s most famous warrior and King Connor of Ulster, welcome you to the heart of south Armagh at Tí Chulainn to celebrate the best local food and crafts the Ring of Gullion has to offer. You will have a chance to try your hand at iron-age games, sample traditional food and learn some ancient crafts.

Lúnasa Festival – Parent and Child Art Workshop

Event takes place on August 20, 2016

Art brings the generations together with this parent and child workshop. Explore with your child the wonderful natural environment of Forkhill's "Plantin". Towering trees buzzing with bees, shade-loving wildflowers and grasses. Using all your senses and guided by local artist Caóilfíonn Murphy-O'Hanlon you will explore together and gather the materials to create a fabulous wildlife collage.

Lúnasa Festival – Drop in Straw Craft

Event takes place on August 22, 2016

Drop in and have a go at making traditional harvest knots from straw with Straw Craft Ireland. You'll be guided through the necessary techniques, while learning the history and traditions of straw craft in Ireland. Once finished, you'll have a traditional harvest knot to take home. There will also be an exhibition of various items woven in a method of plaiting unique to Ireland from baskets and cradles to mummer's masks, variations of Brigid's crosses and corndollies.

Lúnasa Festival – Wild Wednesday, Sensory Minibeast hunt and Teddy bears’ picnic

Event takes place on August 24, 2016

Nature explorers use all their senses to take part in this Minibeast hunt. This event will take place in a relaxed, supportive and understanding atmosphere, finishing with a teddy bears' picnic. This event is aimed at children with additional needs, such as ASD, ADHD, Down's Syndrome, learning disabilities or sensory and communication disorders.

Townland Reunion

Event takes place on August 25, 2016

Join us for a reunion night reminiscing about Carricknagvna National/Primary School and the surrounding townlands. The school opened in 1858 and closed in 1972 and was the heart of the community for over a century. Did you attend or teach there? or do you have a relative who went there? come and share your memories of school and townland life
